Gree Wins Bid of the Nairobi-Malabar Railway in Africa

Recently, as President Xi Jinping restarted his “Trip to Africa”, Gree has good news coming from the African market. With outstanding performance and excellent quality, Gree won the bid of the Nairobi-Malabar Railway in Africa, serving the African people with its self-innovated core technologies.

The Nairobi-Malabar Railway is the extension railway of the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway (achievement of Sino-Africa “Ten Cooperation Plans”). After completion, it will become the main road of East African railway network and one of the benchmark projects for China’s “Belt and Road” initiative to enter into the hinterland of African continent. It is known that after the completion of the Nairobi-Malabar Railway, it will be integrated with both the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway and railway inside Uganda, which will greatly reduce the cross-border logistics transportation cost and further promote the interconnection of East Africa sub-regions. Kenyatta, President of Kenya, attaches great importance to the project and has visited the project on site for several times.

Start point of the Nairobi-Malabar Railway is in Nairobi, capital city of Kenya, and end point is in Malabar, a border city between Kenya and Uganda; main line of the railway, which was formally started to build in 2017, is 487.5kilometers. The project will be divided into three phases, the first phase――from Nairobi to Naivasha is under construction and about 70% is completed. This time Gree won the bid of the first phase construction, which is also the second time for Gree to serve the “Belt and Road” initiative after winning the China-Laos railway project at the beginning of this year.

Since 2018, Gree has successively won the bids of benchmark projects for the “Belt and Road” initiative, such as Gwadar Port Project in Pakistan, Brazil Belo Monte Project, Kantaya Center Project in Burma, the largest commercial complex in Oman, etc.

In consideration of long distance and complicated construction environment of the Nairobi-Malabar Railway, the project tenderer had strict requirement for the performance of HVAC products. In view of the specific situation, Gree provided multiple product combination proposals including GMV5 multi VRF system, light commercial product U-match and related products, which were unanimously approved by the project insiders.

It is known that, the GMV5 multi VRF system of this project adopts Gree self-developed DC inverter scroll compressor, optimized AC system design, and intelligent control technology, with IPLV up to 9.5, which is much higher than China national grade I energy-saving standard. The system is easy to install and has short installation period. Compared to chiller system, the flexible multi VRF system is convenient for structural change, area increase or reconstruction of the project, so it is suitable for the railway construction that requires reconstruction and expansion.

Gree light commercial air conditioner is an air conditioning system designed for different environments. It complies with EU ERP new standard, with A++ SEER in cooling and A+ SEER in heating. The user can select different types of indoor unit based on different needs, thus it is of high cost performance.

As early as 2003, Gree had entered into the market of South Africa. After 15 years’ of diligent exploration, Gree has become the main air conditioning brand in the local market with its high-quality products and services. In 2010, with good quality and self-innovated core technologies, Gree won the bid of venue project of FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Recently, Gree won the bid of University of International Relations in Angola as well, creating a comfortable study environment and cooling atmosphere to the teachers and students. Moreover, Gree further deepened the cooperation with MTN (Mobile Telephone Network), providing HVAC equipment for the communication base station of MTN.

“It is of great honor for Gree to win the bid of The Nairobi-Malabar Railway during President Xi Jinping’s visit to Africa. In the future, Gree will devote itself to creating a more intelligent, energy-saving and comfortable living environment for African people with self-developed core technologies, so as to achieve the dream of becoming a powerful nation for both China and Africa, and benefit African people with ‘Chinese Manufacture’” , the responsible person of Gree overseas market said.
